What Activism really means

Activism: the doctrine or practice of vigorous action or involvement as a means of achieving political or other goals, sometimes by demonstrations, protests, etc.

You can look in any dictionary to find the meaning of activism, but does anyone know what it really means? We say we support the fight against AIDS but the most some of us do is sign a check or wear a red ribbon on December 1st.

But there are some that know the true meaning. Who fight for acceptance for those who have it and for a cure to give them back the gift they thought they had lost. Who give something far more valuable than money. Many of them have lost someone they loved to AIDS, but instead of closing themselves off to disease they fight so that other will be spared from the pain. Some have AIDS themselves. And some just do this because they know it is right. They do no just know the true meaning, they live it.
